Rialto Summer Cinema 2019 begins with the comedy Julie & Julia, written and directed by Nora Ephron, starring Meryl Streep. The film contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell. Both women wrote memoirs and find their lives intertwined. Though separated by time and space, both women are at loose ends... until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.

The Smithsonian's National Museum of American History will host its second annual Smithsonian Food History Weekend, a celebration and exploration of American food history, Oct. 2729. To connect with the museum's 2016 theme of America Participates, a yearlong investigation of how Americans contribute to their democracy, the weekend will look at "Politics on Your Plate" and the relationship between food, politics and people.

After an absence of more than 30 years, Meryl Streep told reporters tonight, backstage after winning her Golden Globe Award that she is ready to return to Broadway. She told assembled press that 'I don't have a plan for that, but I would like to. I always said when my children grew up and went to college, I could think about that. And, that happened this year, so I'm looking.'
