The COVID-19 pandemic has rocked the theatre world. Stages shut down. Actors scrambling for work. It's a moment that has compelled many artists to contemplate their relationship with commerce. A time for show business that is more business than show.
Florida is among the states that has been most profoundly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. How did spread of the coronavirus get so bad in Florida so fast? What role has Governor Ron DeSantis - who resists basic public health measures - played in the catastrophe.
Ancient Rome is the story we turn to, again and again, to understand ourselves. And social media platforms label Donald Trump as an 'orange-haired Caligula,' or a Nero fiddling as America burns. But would Edward Gibbon - who literally wrote the book on this topic (The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire) in the late 18th Century - agree?
Muzzled and sidelined scientists. Dubious COVID-19 treatments. Politicians attacking protocols that keep citizens safe in a pandemic.
What if we all had a literal internal clock that counted down to our time of death? This is the premise of Marisa Wegrzyn's award winning play Hickorydickory. Cari Lee's mortal clock was tinkered with, so she's stuck at age 17 for eternity. Now she's the same age as her daughter, Dale, whose time may be literally running out. Hickorydickory is a funny, heartbreaking story about family, and mortality, and sacrifice. Part of the Main Stage Series.

COCA has a long history of offering creative arts experiences to children and teens throughout the summer at its facility in University City and at Whitfield School in Creve Coeur. This summer, for the very first time, teens interested in intensive experiences in ballet, musical theatre, photography and theatre design won't have to rub shoulders with their pint-sized counterparts. From June 2-13, COCA teens will make their second home on the beautiful campus of Washington University in St. Louis, thanks to a new relationship with the prestigious university.
St. Louis is home to dozens of theatre companies, most of which have the same problem; finding a venue in which to perform. The Black Rep, which utilized the Grandel Theatre for many years, is now faced with this same issue. But, thankfully, they were able to find space at Washington University, using the A.E. Hotchner Studio Theatre for their latest presentation, playwright Danel Beaty's one-man show, EMERGENCY. For this particular show they've found a perfect fit. In fact, this must-see performance from actor Ron Conner is required viewing.
