Revolution Stage Company proudly presents Christopher Durang’s Tony Award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike for six performances only, running February 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26 at 7 PM. This production is directed by Trevor Biship-Gillespie, fresh off his acclaimed staging of Spring Awakening at Revolution Stage Company.
Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike is a hilarious and heartwarming modern comedy inspired by the works of Anton Chekhov. The story follows middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia, who have spent their lives in their family’s farmhouse, only to have their routine upended when their glamorous movie-star sister, Masha, arrives with her much younger and very attractive boyfriend, Spike. What follows is a wickedly funny and touching exploration of family, regret, and the absurdities of life.
Christopher Durang, a master of satirical and dark comedy, has crafted a play that blends sharp wit with heartfelt moments. In addition to the Tony Award, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play. It remains one of the most celebrated comedies of the past decade.
