The Ottawa Little Theatre presents BEYOND A JOKE, a farce by Derek Benfield. The show is directed by DorotHy Gardner and runs from tonight, May 1st – 19th with a matinee on May 13th.
Six fatalities have occurred in Jane and Andrew's country house and when daughter Sally's new young man arrives for the weekend he mistakenly gets the idea that these occurrences are due to something more sinister than 'accidental'. Is he right? Find out in this hilarious farce.
Derek Benfield was born in Bradford in 1926. After training at RADA he began his professional career and spent many years with repertory theatre companies in England.
During his career he wrote more than 30 plays, most of them comedies and farces. Acting more regularly in the 1980's, he and Leo McKern were a memorable pairing in John Mortimer's witty legal series Rumpole of the Bailey. He also appeared in numerous other hit series, including Minder and Only Fools and Horses. Mr. Benfield Passed away on March 10, 2009, aged 82
