THE AMISH PROJECT Comes to Mad Cow Theatre
By: A.A. Cristi Jul. 11, 2017
Mad Cow Theatre is delighted to announce its upcoming production of Jessica Dickey's The Amish Project, a powerful and emotional one-woman play exploring the impacts of a tragedy, presented in The Zehngebot-Stonerock Theatre August 11 as the final production of Mad Cow Theatre's Season 20.
Violence. Loss. Forgiveness. Redemption. In The Amish Project, playwright Jessica Dickey delves into a hidden culture in this fictionalized version of the infamous Nickel Mines schoolhouse shooting of October 2006. Described by The New York Times as "extraordinary...compelling," the play gathers up the anxieties of a community, a culture - perhaps even an entire nation - perplexed by an unthinkable act and coveys them movingly through a single actor. The voices and emotions of those affected merge and melt into a sublime, deeply personal expression of the inexplicable. While the experience of the characters may be specific and unique, the story is one that resonates clearly throughout today's world. Our community is likely to connect (perhaps very personally) with the material and find a hopeful reminder that we are not alone. Due to the nature of the play and its sensitive content, Mad Cow Theatre is compiling a list of guest speakers to share their own insights and personal stories at Talkback sessions after select performances of The Amish Project.Previous credits with Mad Cow in parentheses. The Amish Project runs August 11 - September 10, in The Zehngebot-Stonerock at Mad Cow Theatre, 54 W. Church Street (second floor) in Downtown Orlando. (Click here for directions.)
