Palm Beach Dramaworks to Launch New DRAMALOGUE Series, 12/10

West Palm Beach's only professional multi-award-winning resident theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks, will launch Dramalogue --- a new series that explores working in the theatre --- beginning Tuesday, December 10 live onstage at The Don & Ann Brown Theatre (201 Clematis Street). Produced by Mark Perlberg and Sponsored by Nancy and Jay Parker, this new series will consist of conversations and presentations spotlighting iconic theatre artists and professionals. Presentations will include a range of scene readings, video clips and, where applicable, musical numbers, as well as one-on-one interviews. The series will run on select Tuesdays thru April 8th, 2014.

The first of the six scheduled talks will take place on December 10 and will be entitled Our Fair Lady: Sally Ann Howes. Show business legend, Sally Ann Howes made the cover of "Life" magazine when she succeeded Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady. A child actress in her native England, Howes was also seen on Broadway in Kwamina, Brigadoon, What Makes Sammy Run?, and James Joyce's The Dead, and is best known for her role opposite Dick Van Dyke in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Ms. Howes will be interviewed by Lee Wolf.

December 17 brings a presentation hosted by Dramaworks' resident director J. Barry Lewis, entitled The Actor's Director: Elia Kazan. Few artists have contributed more to the American theatre than Elia Kazan. As co-founder of the Actor's Studio, his students included Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and Julie Harris. As a director noted for developing naturalism on the stage, his collaborations with Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams transformed American theatre.

Continuing into the new year, Mr. Lewis will host another presentation on another Broadway legend, George Abbott. Scheduled for January 7th, Mr. Broadway: George Abbott will focus on the acclaimed Actor, Playwright, Producer and Director. "Mr. Broadway" as he was known, wore all these hats during a career that spanned more than 70 years. He is most celebrated for his work on such ground-breaking musicals as On Your Toes, On the Town, Fiorello!, and Damn Yankees, steering musical comedy from infancy to adulthood.

Next up on February 4 is First Impressions: Frank Verlizzo - a one-on-one interview and discussion with Mr. Lewis and one of finest designers of poster art in American theatre, Frank Verlizzo. Frank "Fraver" Verlizzo has designed posters for over 300 Broadway and off-Broadway shows - including The Lion King, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, and Deathtrap - and is in his third season as poster designer for Palm Beach Dramaworks.

Author, Author: Israel Horovitz will follow on April 1 focusing on one of our most prolific, eclectic, and widely produced playwrights, Israel Horovitz. Horovitz has written over 70 plays, several of which have been translated into as many as 30 languages and performed worldwide. Among his best-known titles are Park Your Car in Harvard Yard, The Primary English Class, and The Indian Wants the Bronx. Mr. Horovitz will be interviewed by Sheryl Flatow.

The final presentation on April 8 will be Granada's Poet: Frederico Garcia Lorca, an exploration of the author of The House of Bernarda Alba and Blood Wedding. Lorca was a liberal who rebelled against Spanish society and was captured and killed by Franco's brigade. Completely banned in his homeland until decades after his death, Frederico Garcia Lorca ultimately would become known as one of the greatest Spanish dramatists. Mark Perlberg will host.
