Mad Cow Theatre Presents George Bernard Shaw's Classic Comedy PYGMALION

Mad Cow Theatre continues Season 20 with George Bernard Shaw's masterpiece Pygmalion, opening Nov. 18, 2016 in the Harriett Theatre.

Pygmalion, the 103-year-old comic forerunner to the musical-theatre favorite My Fair Lady, has never been so timely as it is now during a season when the conflicts between men and women and between rich and poor have taken America's center stage.

Somewhere between its manifestation in Greek mythology and My Fair Lady, Pygmalion invaded the mind of George Bernard Shaw, one of Mad Cow's favorite playwrights. With his extraordinary wit, he seized upon the theme of human transformation. Is reinvention possible? What is lost in the process? With a sly target pinned on the class system, gender stereotypes, language, and middle-class morality, Shaw created his most popular play and gave birth to some of theatre's most beloved characters: Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle. Playing the lead role of Eliza Doolittle is Mad Cow favorite Piper Rae Patterson (The Philadelphia Story, Collected Stories) and in his Mad Cow debut Karl Lengel appears as Professor Henry Higgins. Also featured in the cast are Bobbie Bell (You Can't Take It With You, The Fantasticks!) as Alfred Doolittle, Michael Carr in his Mad Cow debut as Freddy Eynsford-Hill, Mark Lainer (The Pitmen Painters) as Colonel Pickering, Shami J. McCormick (The Big Meal) as Mrs. Higgins, Marylin McGinnis in her Mad Cow debut as Mrs. Eynsford-Hill, Julianne Snyder (Long Day's Journey Into Night) as Clara Eynsford-Hill, and Karel R. Wright (1776, Collected Stories) as Mrs. Pearce.

Pygmalion is directed by J. Barry Lewis (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), with properties and scenic painting by Lisa Buck (My Name is Asher Lev, Painting Churches), costumes by John Dunnett in his Mad Cow debut, lighting design by Amy Hadley (1776, The Big Meal), scenic design by Robert F. Wolin (Avenue Q, My Name is Asher Lev). The production is stage managed by assistant production manager Danielle Paccione.
