19th Century Hound Presents THOSE WHO LIE BEYOND

By:

19th Century Hound Presents THOSE WHO LIE BEYOND Image19th Century Hound introduces a brand new show, Those Who Lie Beyond, performed within Factory Obscura's immersive art installation Beyond. This original production - a period piece exploring the themes of creativity, illusion, awakening, and transformation - is fully devised by the company of performers, as the team creates the show together in the rehearsal room.

"We are utilizing a lot of European techniques that have been used to create shows like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Laramie Project, and SpongeBob SquarePants," director Ronn Burton said. "We are responding to the exquisite and detailed environment the Factory Obscura artists have immersed us in...building the show around their creativity. The actors improvise scenes, not only with words but using physicality and movement. In this process, my job as a director is not the conventional 'You stand here. You walk over there on this line.' I encourage our performers to explore their full range and respond instinctively. Then my job, alongside Alex Prather - our 'Writer in the Room' - is to take these explorations and work out the narrative like a sculptor with a lump of clay. You scrape bits off...you make a mistake and fill it in, and suddenly a form starts to emerge."

Audiences won't be sitting in chairs, but will move throughout the art installation, exploring multiple rooms and levels. In the vein of long-running New York City immersive theatre experiences like Sleep No More and Then She Fell, there will be opportunities for one-on-one interactions between audiences and performers in various nooks and crannies of the space.

"It's going to be exciting night of theatre," Burton explained. "You won't lean back in your chair with your arms folded, passively observing a story. You dive in alongside the performers, solving riddles, pushing the story along. The show needs you as an audience member to move forward. I think people will experience a kind of theatrical electricity that Oklahoma City hasn't really seen before."

Those Who Lie Beyond: an immersive performance features Regina J. Banks, Mary Buss, Todd Clark, Lindsey Cox, Zaneen Hotchkiss, Ashley Frisbee, Chelcy Harrell, Madolynn Hayes, Anna Holloway, Audrey Johnston, Sarah Lomize, Ashley J. Mandanas, Sheridan McMichael, Aaron Michael, Joshua Okpara, Anastasia Pellar, Alex Prather, Morgan Smith, Brianna Williams, and company members from Race Dance Company and Perpetual Motion Dance.

Those Who Lie Beyond runs Friday and Saturday evenings at 9:30pm November 2-17, 2018. Tickets range from $10-40, available at www.19thCenturyHound.com.

19th Century Hound ...though our name may be old-school, our ambitions are cutting-edge. We are a company for the digital age: devising theatre, film, and performance art; hybridizing technology and media; and collaborating with local and global artists. We ponder and probe the world around us, exploring empathy through disappointments, dangers, delicacies, and delights. We seize the accustomed and expected models of presentation and flip them on their heads - utilizing non-theatrical spaces in a theatrical way, we offer our community nuanced, immersive, artistic experiences.

Factory Obscura is an Oklahoma City artist collective creating immersive experiences, inviting visitors to awaken wonder through exploration and curiosity. BEYOND is the second temporary art experience from the collective, as they work toward a permanent, large-scale home in OKC. More information at www.FactoryObscura.com
