Directed by Internationally Acclaimed Nabi Abdurakhmanov
New York, NY – Essence Theatre is proud to announce the production of EQUUS, a stunning adaptation
of Peter Shaffer's iconic play. This captivating production will be directed by the world -renowned Nabi
Abdurakhmanov. Performances will run in New York City from March 18–22, 2026, at Theatre 154 in the
West Village (154 Christopher Street, New York, NY 10014). Performances run Wednesday through
Saturday at 7:00 PM, with a matinee on Sunday at 3:00 PM.
Nabi Abdurakhmanov's new production in New York is a completely unconventional interpretation of the
well-known play. The focus of the stage study is psychiatrist Dr. Martin Dysart, who has the power to
return the young patient to the average norm with the help of treatment and hypnosis, or to preserve in him
the capacity for boundless Faith and allow him to continue his tragic path of God-seeking and God-
fighting.
The performance is passionate, at times even frightening with its naked truth, requiring not only the
attention and empathy of the audience, but also intense intellectual and emotional work of the audience’s
“Co-participation"
