World Premiere of #BFAPROBLEMS: THE MUSICAL at Looking Glass Theatre, 8/2 - 5

By:

Looking Glass Theatre announces its acceptance of #BFAproblems: The Musical to its Space Grant Program. This new musical cabaret written by Kyle Fox, Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld, and Nicole Weiss will get its world premiere in New York this summer. Directed by Kyle Fox, and starring Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld and Nicole Weiss, the piece will feature sketch comedy, musical theatre, and original songs written by the creative team, as well as original arrangements by the Music Director Benjamin Rauhala. #BFAPROBLEMS: THE MUSICAL will have performances at Looking Glass Theatre (422 West 57th Street) on August 2nd – August 5th (with performances at 8pm Thursday –Saturday, and 3pm Saturday & Sunday).

#BFAPROBLEMS: THE MUSICAL is the first writing collaboration between Kyle Fox, Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld, and Nicole Weiss. The team wanted to create a project that gave them the two things that are sometimes lacking on the audition circuit: autonomy and fun. The show started as an opportunity for Weiss and Rosenfeld to have an opportunity to sing songs of characters they would never realistically be cast as, but has developed into a heavily improv-based, sketch comedy cabaret with a real emotional core.

The cast features Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld and Nicole Weiss playing a number of different roles.

Two broke girls. No, seriously. Two twenty-something actor/singers trying to make it big in New York City are faced with the realities of their chosen profession: from awkward agent meetings to terrifying dance calls, and from bad OKCupid dates to fifty "survival" jobs. After graduating with their BFAs from their respective universities, Mollie, the free-spirited soul singer, and Rebecca, the type-A princess, are thrown into the same audition room. Will these two stand each other's screlting long enough to become friends? In a cabaret incorporating sketch comedy, musical
theatre, and original songs, these two discover what's most important.

Tickets for the world premiere of #BFAPROBLEMS: THE MUSICAL are $15 ($12 for groups of 10+ by advanced reservation, TDF vouchers will be accepted as well) and can be purchased online at lookingglasstheatrenyc.com.

Looking Glass Theatre's mission is to theatrically and truthfully reflect a female vision on the stage while creating a community of artistic freedom. We fulfill this by presenting female directors' visions of original works or the classics and by staging new plays either written or directed by women. This includes children's shows and educational programming as well as our semi-annual festival of new works, featuring emerging women playwrights and directors, each season. #BFAPROBLEMS: THE MMUSICAL is the most recent grant recipient of The Looking Glass Space Grant Program, an artistic and community initiative continuing the mission of Looking Glass Theatre. lookingglasstheatrenyc.com
