Workshop Theater Hosts Month-Long Veterans Fest

WORKSHOP THEATER COMPANY celebrates Memorial Day and our Veterans with the "They That Have Borne The Battle" Veterans Festival at the WorkShop Main Stage Theater and Jewel Box Theater throughout the month of May featuring its Annual Spring One-Act Festival. The WorkShop Theater is located at 312 West 36th Street, 4th floor. Subway: A/C/E to Penn Station. General admission to the One-Act Festival is $18, $15 for students and seniors, $9 for Military Personnel and Veterans with ID (Discount code: VETS). Other Festival Events-- The Film Screening of "No Job For A Woman," the Reading Series, and the Special Staged Reading of "The Persians," are free and open to the public. WORKSHOP THEATER COMPANY'S Festival is jam-packed with Veterans events. In addition to the featured One-Act Festival, there will be a Full-Length Reading Series including a Special Staged Reading of a new Translation of Aeschylus' "The Persians" (in association with Verse Theater Manhattan) a Special Film Screening Of "No Job For a Woman," a docudrama on female correspondents of WWII.

The Veterans One-Act Festival is the cornerstone of the Veterans Festival. Every year WorkShop Theater Company produces its spring One-Act Festival around a theme; this year's Festival is military-themed in honor of Veterans Day. This year's one-acts include: "Air Force 525," by MaryLee Martin, "Breakfast With Charlie," by Bob Manus, "The Fatwa Of Corpsman Johnny Jones," by Greg Oliver Bodine, "Bethesda," by Bob Stewart, "On The Advice Of An Old Friend," By David M. Mead, and "Vowed and Wowed," by Rich Orloff.. The one-act festival runs from May 5th- May 28th at The WorkShop Jewel Box Theater.

The Veterans Reading Series is FREE and features staged readings of three full-length plays: "Army Royalty," by David M. Mead (May 8th @ 6pm and May 16th @ 8pm), "The Dishonorable Discharge Of Private Pitts," by Danny Damiano (May 17th @ 8pm and May 18th @ 8pm), and a Special Staged Reading of a new translation of Aeschylus' "The Persians," by Aaron Poochgian in association with Verse Theater Manhattan (May 22nd @ 6pm).

The Film Screening of "No Job For A Woman," directed by Michelle Fillion, is a docudrama on the remarkable female war correspondents of World War II . "No Job For A Woman" is a cinematic look at how they saw their jobs, their duties and the events they were called on to report.
