WorkShop Theater Company to Remount The Navigator 2/9/12

WorkShop Theater Company will revive their New York Innovative Theatre Award winning production of Eddie Antar's The Navigator, February 9-March 3 in their Main Stage Theater (312 West 36th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues, 4th Floor). The production will be directed by Outstanding Direction Award winner Leslie Kincaid Burby and will feature Kelly Anne Burns* (nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role), Nicole Taylor* (nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Featured Role), Joseph Franchini* and Michael Gnat* (2009 nytheatre.com Person of the Year). The creative team will include Sound Design by Quentin Chiappetta (nominated for Outstanding Sound Design), Lighting Design by Duane Pagano (winner for Outstanding Lighting Design), and Set Design by Jen Varbalow.

The Navigator received a developmental Play in Process production in the Jewel Box Theater in 2010. With only a $300 budget the show swept the New York Innovative Theatre Awards with eight nominations, including Outstanding Production of a Play and Outstanding Original Full-Length Script. The Navigator was the most nominated show at the 2011 New York Innovative Theatre Awards.

The production, presented by the WorkShop Theater Company in their Main Stage Theater (312 West 36th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues, 4th Floor) will play a four-week engagement February 9-March 3; Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm with an additional performance on Monday, February 20 at 8pm. EDDIE ANTAR (Playwright) began his career in theatre working with the Indie theatre company The Art & Work Ensemble, appearing in many of its productions including Joseph Heller's We Bombed in New Haven, and a stage adaptation of Dorothy Parker's The Big Blond. Theatre studies include HB Studios and The Gene Frankel Theatre Workshop. Currently, Eddie devotes his time to writing and is a member Playwright of The WorkShop Theater Company. His body of work includes eleven completed full-length plays and many short plays and one-acts. His full lengths In the Face of the Enemies Child and Life On Hold were performed by the Delphi Theatre of Manhattan. His plays Being Married, The Navigator and First Love. Ever have all had readings at The WorkShop Theater Company. The Navigator received a Play in Process production by The WorkShop Theater in the fall of 2010 and was nominated for eight New York Innovative Theater Awards, including Outstanding Original Full-Length Script and Outstanding Production. He is currently developing his twelfth full length, a bilingual play about a Dominican Little League family in the Washington Heights/Inwood section of Manhattan.

LESLIE KINCAID BURBY (Director) recently received the New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Direction of the 2010 WorkShop Theater Company Play in Process production of Eddie Antar's The Navigator. She is delighted to be re-directing the play, which received eight New York Innovative Theatre Award nominations. Leslie cut her directorial teeth doing ambitious experimental theatre in unconventional spaces with the inter-arts company, The Bull Family Orchestra, which she co-founded with playwright, Katie Bull. Among many productions she developed with BFO, Leslie was particularly honored to be one of the directors of the 29 Questions Project which was performed near Ground Zero, and explored the pain and revelation which has arisen from the tragedy of 9/11 and the ongoing strife in the Middle East. Leslie is currently the resident director of The Little Apple Theater Company, a traveling company that brings professional theater to young people of all economic and social backgrounds. Recent productions have toured throughout the Eastern US, with performances in NYC at Symphony Space and the 92nd Street Y. Leslie is also a frequent director with the Delphi Theatre Company of Manhattan, where she recently directed As You Like It, The Miracle Worker, Don Pasquale, and Die Fledermaus. Also a performer, Leslie holds a BFA with honors from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Theatre Arts, and has been featured in many off-Broadway plays and musicals, as well as appearing on TV in commercials and daytime serial dramas.
