Wide Eyed Productions to Continue 'Winks' Season with THE MISER, STANDARD APTITUDE and More

Wide Eyed Productions presents "Wide Eyed Winks", a season of development. Performances run now through July 9, 2013, the second Tuesday of every month. Upcoming dates include: March 12 at 7pm; April 9 at 7 pm; May 14 at 7 pm; June 11 at 7 pm; and July 9 at 7 pm. All performances are at The Underground Lounge, 955 West End Avenue at 107^th street, New York, NY. Tickets are free, space is limited.

Wide Eyed Productions is embarking on a season of development as they explore new works, revisit the classics, and reimagine some of the best plays in the contemporary canon. This season predicates future seasons by workshopping and reading plays to excite and invigorate theatergoers and the Production Company alike. Through a series of readings open to the public Wide Eyed Productions aims to strike a chord within ourselves and the community.

This season of "Winks" is intended to develop work that will further define Wide Eyed as a company, as well as its place in the New York arts community. Every reading gives the audience a chance to have a voice on what Wide Eyed produces in its seventh season, as well as build support for the company and all of its talented members. We've picked our favorite contenders, by attending and giving your feedback you can help shape the next season at Wide Eyed.

Mar. 12th - The Miser by Moliere
Directed by Nathan Shreeve

Nathan is the Artistic Director of Schmucks Theatre in London. He was also voted Best Director in Manchester Fringe-2012 and was the Assistant Director to Judith Malina at The Living Theatre. In addition Nathan has worked with the Soho Rep on their artistic team.

April 9th - Standard Aptitude by Sam Byron
Directed by Judy Merrick
Written by Sam Byron

Judy Merrick's directing credits include Burn This, Zoo Story, and PMS The Musical at USC in LA. She was also awarded Best Director in a Comedy for Fork to Neverland and Best Director in a Long Drama for Buried Memories and Zombie Girl with End Times Productions. She has also served as the Assistant Director with Daniel Aukin in Obie award winning play 4000 Miles at Lincoln Center and with Leigh Silverman in the 24 Hour Plays on Broadway 2012.

Sam Byron was the 2012 recipient of the Steinberg New Playwrights Fellowship from The New School for Drama. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and the Resident Playwright for Wide Eyed Production's 2012-2013 season. His plays include A Substitute for Margo, The Rock and the Bird, Debt, Brooklyn Vacancies (finalist, New Works Program at T. Schreiber Studio, New York City), Static (finalist, HotCity Theater's Greenhouse Festival, St. Louis), and Animals (Fringe NYC, winner of award for Overall Excellence in Directing, Kristin Skye Hoffmann).

May 14th - Proof by David Auburn
Directed by Celine Rosenthal

Celine produced Seminar at the John Golden Theatre and was the Assistant Producer of and Leap of Faith on Broadway. Other credits include directing Under the Bed at the Light of the Match Festival and Cold Turkey/Supremacy Academy at the Writopia Festival.

July 9th - Reborning by Zayd Dohrn
Directed by Jeremy Pape

Jeremy is the Associate Artistic Director and Technical Director of End Times Productions and serves as the Technical Manager for Roy Arias Studios. He is currently working towards his Masters in Directing at the New School for Drama.

Wide Eyed Productions is a New York-based collective dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the creation of risk-taking, relevant theatre. Through a core ensemble and collaborative process it is our goal to create new theatre that stimulates the imagination and awakens the public's passion for high standards in performing arts.

In 2012, its Founding Artistic Director received the Excellence in Directing Award at the New York International Fringe Festival. In 2010 the company joined the League of Independent Theater New York, and in 2009 Wide Eyed was named nytheatre.com's Person of the Year. All of these accomplishments have put Wide Eyed on the map, but what Wide Eyed is most proud of is its history of producing projects that inspire the company, along with returning and new audience members.
