Truant Arts proudly announces its Fall 2013 show, "Chaos Under Construction," running in repertory from today, September 19-October 13 at Access Theater (380 Broadway, NYC). Created from a starting point of four randomly generated words--rhapsody, cloister, phoenix, and polypropylene--five new plays (four one-acts and one full length) will have their WORLD PREMIERES, and six visual artists will have designed the posters.

Chaos Under Construction is born.

CHAOS UNDER CONSTRUCTION?

In March, Truant Arts created five troupes, each with actors, a director and a playwright. Each troupe was given four words and two hours. The directors guided the actors, the playwrights brainstormed with their directors, and the actors got to just play. Then, the playwrights wrote plays built on that day's foundation. Some pulled abstractions, some expanded developing storylines, and others built on the characters the actors created.

After open readings, audience feedback, and more collaboration amongst the troupes, we have the five new plays that make up Chaos Under Construction.

WHO/WHAT IS TRUANT?

Truant Arts, a collaborative theater company, was founded in 2011 by Jamie Rosler and Bob Teague, to facilitate the creation of new works for the stage.

Jamie and Bob met as members of Left Hip Productions, a company that produced 48-hour play festivals, bringing playwrights, directors and actors together to improvise and create 10-minute plays. Keeping the collaborative aspect, and the potential for artistic boundary breaking, but expanding the length of the development process, Truant Arts aims to produce substantial, meaningful work that reaches a wider audience.
