The Tank Presents TELEPHONY WAR ENGAGEMENT 5/8

By:

Why do we ‘depend' upon broadcast media for ‘rumors of war'? Telephony can and does put us in direct contact with front lines. Can we contact those engaged in fighting and have them participate in a project that avoids aestheticising conflict in an attempt to make the opaque transparent?

Saturday, May 08, 2010; 1:00pm - $5
Location: The Tank at 354 W. 45th Street, New York, NY 10036
A, C, E, to 42nd Street; 1, 2, 3, S, 7 to Time Square

Journalism has radically changed in the past five years to telephonic blog culture. Pervasive mobile media has allowed all information out. The theaters of war evade propaganda. With this project we will attempt to ‘filter' the real-time theaters of conflict through these classic western scripts. Using telematic means such as the computer web-cam chat, global skype phones, smart phones with augmented reality apps, and delivered in an immersive projected data venue we will assemble soldiers and civilians from around the world for archival and or real time staging of select pieces.

Using you tube, face book, chat-roulette, and other means of telematic content we will elicit interest and discussion on the ancient public discourses on the culture of war and war making. Call for open submissions and participation with the use of ichat, skype, facebook chat, game-chat, chat-roulette, stumble, Second Life, and other telephonic means to participate with existing and present soldiers in global and real-time conflicts using fragments of these scripts:
