THE COURT MARTIAL OF ALMIRANTE MONTOJO Comes to Manhattan Rep Theatre
A Spanish American War courtroom drama written by Filipino playwright Dennis Posadas will be performed off-off-Broadway on December 8. The Court Martial of Almirante Montojo historical courtroom drama takes off from US Admiral George Dewey's 1913 Scribner autobiography where he said he came to the courtroom defense of Spanish Contraalmirante Patricio Montojo after his victory in Manila Bay on 1 May 1898 one hundred and twenty years ago.
"Themes of honor between warriors, respect for the flag, and other themes are explored in this play, such as keeping civilians, women and children out of harm's way," says Posadas. "Recent events have shown how these values have been trampled upon. I just thought it would be timely to show these in a play," he added.
Featured as antagonist Ministro Santander in the play is Andrew James Bleidner, whose most recent role was as Colonel Robert Gould Shaw in the Fox /Bill O'Reilly miniseries Legends & Lies: The Civil War. Bleidner also played a Marine in the 2015 Shia LeBeouf film Man Down.
The Court Martial of Almirante Montojo will be directed by Ken Wolf and performed on December 8, Saturday at the Manhattan Rep Theatre on 17-19 West 45th Street #301, NYC. Tickets at $20.
