Smith + Tinker Presents Limited Engagement of LADDER TO THE MOON at HERE, Now thru 11/2
The collaborative writers' group, Smith + Tinker, will present two bills of short works in Ladder to the Moon. The limited engagement will play today, October 30 - Nov 2, 2013, with four performances in HERE's Mainstage Theatre. (145 Sixth Ave, one block south of Spring St).
Smith + Tinker, run by Creative Producer Sarah Rose Leonard and HERE's Resident Dramaturg Peter McCabe is a curated New York-based writers' group. Formed in June 2013 with the goal of supporting emerging writers creating collaborative works, the group consists of five playwrights: Andrew Farmer, Jerry Lieblich , Francis Weiss Rabkin Amanda Szeglowski, and Ryann Weir.
The writers' works have been in development for five months and will be presented in two bills as part of Ladder to the Moon.
Andrew Farmer's The Gray Man, tells the story of Simon, a haunted young man trying to escape the tenement slums of turn-of-the-century Manhattan. But when children begin to go missing on his block, he's revisited by the ghost stories of his childhood, and memories of a man in gray waiting in The Shadows.
Jerry Lieblich's Ghost Stories is a genre-bending, mind-bending song-and-story-infused look at just what it means to believe in ghosts, in fate, or in anything at all.
Francis Weiss Rabkin offers Won't Be A Ghost: A Performed Essay is a performance essay on queer gender, martyrdom, and whistleblowing.
Amanda Szeglowski's Harold, I hate you is a darkly humorous, physical theatre investigation of omnipresent insecurities, that are, perhaps, imaginary.
Ryann Weir brings The Dinosaur Play in which Catherine and Martin work at a dinosaur theme park in the Bronx Zoo, but they kind of wish they were anywhere else.
The schedule for Ladder to the Moon is as follows: Today, October 30 at 8:30pm, Friday, November 1 at 8:30pm, Saturday, November 2 at 4:00pm and 8:30pm. There is no show on Halloween. Tickets for Ladder to the Moon are $15.
