Slant Theatre Project Tapes ON THIS ISLAND Podcast - Episode 7 at Ars Nova Tonight
By: BWW News Desk
Slant Theatre Project presents the seventh episode in their popular live podcast series ON THIS ISLAND tonight, September 5 at 8:00pm at Ars Nova (511 West 54th Street) in Manhattan.
Hosted by Matt Dellapina, most recently seen in Second Stage Theatre's "The Tutors," and featuring stand-up comic Phoebe Robinson (Carolines on Broadway, Sirius XM Radio), actor Ben Graney (WarHorse, The Netflix Plays), fitness guru Al Kavaldo (Pushing The Limits, We're Working Out), director Will Davis (2050 Fellow at New York Theatre Workshop), and singer/songwriter Phil Pickens - "Metamorphosis" - a live-theatrical podcast of NYC-inspired storytelling - will comb through this metropolis' rapidly changing neighborhoods and explore the transformations in the people who call them home. "Metamorphosis" will also feature special musical guest New York-based indie pop singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson. Begun in early 2012 amidst a collective befuddlement with the current theater scene, Slant Theatre Project sought to reinvigorate the variety show with a slower-paced attention to storytelling. Performed live, then uploaded as a podcast (available on iTunes athttps://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/on-this-island/id580211869), ON THIS ISLAND draws from the uniquely New York collection of theater artists, musicians, and complete and utter non-artists to fill in the lives of the faces we flash by on the street. Mixing short fiction, personal stories, short plays, and song, each live episode weaves through a chosen theme. In a short time, ON THIS ISLAND has moved from the People's Improv Theater to a standing slot at Ars Nova and a popular presence on iTunes. Some previous contributors include actors Lucas Kavner and Kelly McCreary, burlesque princess Tansy Tan Dora, the founders of the Bronx Brewery, Broadway's Chad Goodridge and Mackenzie Meehan, playwrights Rachel Bonds and Matt Moses, musician Phil Pickens and indie darlings The Hollows. Slant producers include Wes Grantom, Adam Knight, Mat Smart and Matt Dellapina. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe/9810032.
