Secret Theatre Adds Steampunk Twist to OLIVER!, Beg. Today

By:

The creative team and cast has been announced for Oliver!, which begins its limited holiday run December 6 at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City, NY. Performances run through December 22, 2013.

Led by acclaimed director Lenny Banovez (TITAN Theatre Company), this unique production puts a Steampunk twist on Lionel Bart's familiar music and lyrics, based, themselves, on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist.

After playing the title role in the musical as a child, Artistic Director of the Secret Theatre, Richard Mazda, comes full-circle in this production by portraying the infamous character of Fagin. Mazda was one of the co-founders of Poole punk/mod band Tours and was a powerful force in the music industry through the 80s and 90s. In 2005, he scored an Off Broadway role as English in Scott Brooks' Bag Fulla Money, which played at 42nd St.'s Clurman Theatre. Additionally, Mazda has appeared in numerous Hollywood films including Saving Private Ryan, Batman Begins, Love Actually and Quills.

The cast also features Gregory Isaac (Chicago Shakespeare) as Bill Sykes, Bailey Seeker (NYU-CAP21) as Nancy, and introduces Amanda Dupuy as Oliver and John Alden Hooper as the Artful Dodger. The cast also includes a large and talented Ensemble of children and adults.

Costume Designer Becky Willett brings her experience in the Steampunk community and her work on Broadway (Lucky Guy) and Off-Broadway (Somewhere Fun and The Rain Maker) to center stage in this unique holiday production of the beloved musical.

Rounding out the creative team are Musical Director Dror Baitel, Choreographer Nicholas Sotack, Lighting Designer Dan Jobbins, Prop Designer Anna Grace Carter and Richard Mazda and Jasmine Roberts for Set Design.

Tickets for "Oliver!" are $25.00 for adults, $15.00 for children and $70.00 for a family 4-pack, which can be purchased online at www.secrettheatre.com, at the Secret Theatre box office located at 44-02 23rd St, LIC, NY, or by calling (718) 392-0722.
