Poets for a Renewable Energy and Peace Set For HOWL! 10/23

HOWL! Arts Project and The Actors Fund present POETS FOR A RENEWABLE ENERGY AND PEACE on Sunday, October 23 at 1:00pm at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place) in Manhattan, as part of HOWL! Arts Project 2011.

Come hear performances by emerging poets whose families are from Afghanistan and the Middle East; poet Anne Waldman, whose 1,000-page feminist epic, "The Iovis Trilogy," has just been published by Coffee House Press; music from the Brooklyn-based duo, The Mast (featuring Haale Gafori and Matt Kilmer), whose debut album, "Wild Poppies," has been receiving rave reviews; and a diverse group of longtime New York poets, including some who worked closely with Allen Ginsberg for many years.

Another highlight includes a group reading of Allen Ginsberg's renowned anti-nuclear energy poem "Plutonian Ode," with Chris Brandt, Sara Goudarzi, David Henderson, Eliot Katz, Papoleto Melendez, Yusuf Misdaq, Sahar Muradi, Bob Rosenthal, Zohra Saed, Tahani Salah, Jackie Sheeler, and Anne Waldman.

This event is being produced by a recently created NYC-based group, Poets for Renewable Energy and Peace (PREP), which hopes to inspire new and growing activism against war and nuclear energy.

ARTS PROJECT 2011 also include Jim Rado's In the Dark Theatre presents SUN (AUDIO MOVIE) on October 22 at 8pm; HOWL-O'WEEEEEN (w)RITES, spooky one-act plays inspired by NY Beat Poets on October 23 at 8pm; Manhattan Theatre Club's reading of Laura Marks' BETHANY (October 24) at 7pm; Robert I. Rubinsky's CYCLONE SEASON (October 26) at 8pm; Rosie's Theater Kids' STUDENTS ON STRIKE (October 22 & 29) at 1pm; and much more, concluding with GHOSTLIGHT: THE HAUNTED EAST VILLAGE, an all-star Halloween gala presented by Jackie Factory on October 31, beginning at 9pm.

HOWL! ARTS PROJECT 2011 - a unique month-long series of theater, performance art, music, dance, poetry, comedy, entertainment for the entire family, and much more - runs through October 31 at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place). Proceeds benefit HOWL! H.E.L.P., an emergency
services assistance and health fund for eligible and qualifying East Village artists, administered by The Actors Fund.
