A raucous, zany beach party, complete with swimming pools, Tiki Bar and beach balls, begins previews tonight, November 29, in a special, 80-minute holiday adaptation of Pirates of Penzance at NYU Skirball, running through December 10. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
The entire audience will be seated on stage (or in beach chairs!), immersed in the action alongside sappy pirates, dewy-eyeddamsels, bumbling bobbies and one very stuffy Major General. And if anyone gets thirsty along the way - the Tiki Bar is opened throughout the show with special "Walk the Plank" drinks for kids and adults. This Pirates is most definitely a spunky model of a (post) modern major musical.
The Hypocrites theater company's Pirates is directed and adapted by Sean Graney, with book by W.S. Gilbert and music by Arthur Sullivan, and a cast of ten actors playing all the instruments and multiple roles.
Pirates of Penzance will play tonight, November 29, through December 10, 2017. Tickets start at $65, with special $20 children's tickets (ages 10 and under) for all matinees. Tickets may be purchased online at www.nyuskirball.org, by phone at 212.998.4941, or in person at the NYU Skirball Box Office at 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square, New York, New York 10012.
