Philadephia-Based Theater Company To Make New York Debut With Derrell Lawrence's THE FUNERAL ImageFollowing successful sold-out runs at the Walnut Street Theatre (Philadelphia, PA), the August Wilson Center (Pittsburgh, PA) and the Landis Theatre (Vineland, NJ) today, the Philadelphia-based Lawrence Theatre Company (LTC,) in association with Thoroughbred Entertainment and Jersey Style Films, LLC, announced the New York debut of Derrell Lawrence's THE FUNERAL.

rence and directed by Brooklyn native Damien Wallace, THE FUNERAL will play two performances at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway), Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 3 pm and 7 pm. All tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at www.symphonyspace.org, by phone at 212.864.5400, or in person at the Symphony Space Box Office.

Deemed "Brilliantly Written" by the Philadelphia Daily News, THE FUNERAL introduces us to the Williams family as they struggle with the death of their patriarch Jasper Norman Williams, Sr. In addition to contending with the emotions that come with planning his funeral, the family must also deal with long-held secrets, lies, and conflicts that are finally revealed upon his death. Will the Williams family be able to recover from the shock and betrayal of their beloved husband, father and community icon? Or, will they sweep what is discovered under the rug?

THE FUNERAL is part of the growing thought-provoking, dynamic and relevant body of work by award-winning playwright, actor, filmmaker, executive producer, director and soon-to-be author Derrell Lawrence. Founder of the Lawrence Theatre Company, he has a passion for creating narratives that have a positive impact on audiences. His work has been honored by the Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival and the Philadelphia International Film Festival. In May 2019 he is set to be inducted into The South Philadelphia Cultural Hall of Fame. And later this year, THE FUNERAL will make its Washington, DC debut as part of the 2019 DC Black Theatre and Arts Festival.
