POOLSIDE & OTHER STORIES to Open Todayth at Kraine Theater
"Poolside & Other Stories" is a comic, yet touching show (with elements of risqué) about a woman with a fetish for old men and bathing suits.
A woman who wanted to be on board flights overseas, and be on the boards of Broadway, but ended up teaching yoga and raising a child. A Pam that everyone still calls Pammy. Swimming through middle age, where dreams merge with reality, she discovers a life a little less glamorous, but more beautiful.
Poolside plays as a one-woman show of sorts, but is really an ensemble piece, and is presented in mixed styles; monologues (Penny the 1935 Wheat penny chorus girl, Pepsi the fat Kentucky housewife, Jane Minot the Parisian writer of erotic fiction, and others), stand-up, storytelling, and song. Pammy has a sidekick in Larry the Musician who is onstage most of the one hour running time, and doles out unsolicited commentary, jokes and interludes of violin. Larry is recently widowed and concerned with what to do with himself now and moreover, how to meet women.
