Urban Research Center presents PLAYWAR from January 26 - February 4 @ Abrons Arts Center, NYC.

In a world on the brink of collapse, two men fight their way through a final, glorious show.

PLAYWAR is a new work of contemporary performance that dynamically grapples with issues of intimacy and aggression, truth and spectacle, hope and despair. Almost three years in the making, and bringing together all of Urban Research Theater's work on new theatrical forms, PLAYWAR is a virtuosic duet on the pleasures of conspiracy and the terrors of communion.

As performers Maximilian Balduzzi and Ben Spatz face off in a pre-apocalyptic scenario, spectators find themselves increasingly pulled into a world of expressive action and poetic association far beyond the conventions of realism. Evoking the collision of decadence and terrorism in the 21st century, PLAYWAR is a testimony to the current moment, given through songs, movement and text.

PLAYWAR will run for two weekends at Abrons Arts Center, immediately following the American Realness Festival and alongside PS122's COIL and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:
January 26-28, Thu - Sat @ 8pm
February 2-4, Thu - Sat @ 8pm

Maximilian Balduzzi and Ben Spatz began their collaborative partnership in 2008. Since then their work has been since around New York City and beyond, at venues including the Lincoln Center Rubenstein Atrium, The Living Theatre, Medicine Show Theatre, The Centre for Performance Research, Actors Movement Studio, Cave Arts Space, Movement Research at Judson Church, United Solo Festival, and most recently Occupy Broadway.

Urban Research Theater develops original performances out of a continuous, long-term practice of embodied research. Our commitment to integrating narrative and image with irreducible liveness in performance draws on experimental theatre, postmodern dance, and performance art.
