Outer Gaea Company Presents The NYC Premiere Of THE BALLERINA Image

Outer Gaea Company makes its US debut with a visually provocative production of Anne-Sophie Marie's new play, 'The Ballerina', directed by James Scotland. Runs January 24th - 27th, 2019.

Conrad's Heart of Darkness meets Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Scotland's production viscerally dissects the language of violence, physical and emotional. Whilst intersecting this political dark comedy with, tropes that highlight the failures of some post-colonial societies in Africa, and question Africa's democratic future. Foretelling an era where the chickens will most certainly come home to roost.

Set in a country not so far away, where Colin Clutterbuck, a British diplomat is brutally arrested by the National Intelligence Agency. Accused of conspiring to overthrow the government, Colin fights back with wit and great British banter. But with the infamous master interrogator, Pacifique Muamba as his opponent, the young diplomat is about to be painfully re-educated and taken to the brink of madness.

'The Ballerina' is a powerful narrative. An intense battle of wills and culture between two characters.

Pacifique, cultured and fiercely nationalistic, the ultimate pragmatist. "I would rather commit an injustice than tolerate disorder."

Colin, an arrogant torch bearer for western style democracy, a reckless romantic. "We elect a party, we're one of the 19 full democracies in the World."

Experimenting with Antonin Artaud's theatre of cruelty, Scotland's imagery is unapologetic, inviting the audience to love, hate and most importantly, to question their own beliefs.
