New Musical GOING SOUTH Presents Workshop Production Tonight at Dixon Place

A workshop production of the new musical Going South will be presented Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Dixon Place. Going South has book, music & lyrics by Katya Stanislavskaya.

Going South sheds a light on North Carolina's legal system by focusing on four cases tried on the same docket. The cases-Custody, Cake, Co-Eds, and Coco-examine divorce, discrimination, campus rape, and transgender issues, respectively. These stories are linked together by Robert Bob Jones, a smarmy and charismatic Southern lawyer. Told alternately in the courtroom and in flashback, the musical challenges the political, social, and societal constructs of today's American South.

The workshop is directed by Kayla Friend, with music direction by Nevada Lozano, choreography by Georgina Bates, and a cast that includes Kurt Robbins* (Thoroughly Modern Millie; Broadway National Tour), Laura Cetti, Haylie Orr, Corey Austin Thomas, Carly Rose, Taylor Baskin, Libby Rounds, Maggie McMeans, Jordan Ho, Francesca Nong, Tyler Lord, Seana Nicol, Becca Shulbank-Smith. John Albert Harris (Puffs) is the producer and stage manager. This production is made possible by the support of Dixon Place, THML Theatre Company, and our Indiegogo supporters.

Katya Stanislavskaya's works include full-length musicals Resident Alien and Going South, theatrical song cycle Women on Love, and numerous short musicals and cabaret songs. Her work has been developed at the BMI Workshop, Dramatist Guild Fellowship, New Dramatists, New Georges, Weston Playhouse, Astoria Performing Arts Center, New York Theatre Barn, and Western Carolina University. Songs performed at Joe's Pub, Feinstein's/54 Below, Merkin Hall, Ars Nova, Barrington Stage, Goodspeed Opera House, York Theatre, and Prospect theatre. Honors include the Jerry Harrington Award (BMI), Weston New Musical Award, and a MacDowell Colony Residency. Katya is an Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre at SUNY-New Paltz.
