NVC Presents LEAVING HOME With Malcolm Gets, Kirsten Scott and More Tonight

By:

The New Voices Collective will present the world premiere of Leaving Home - a triple bill of three one-act musicals with music by Jonathan Larson Award-winner Sam Davis (Bunnicula) and book and lyrics by Drama Desk-nominee Sean Hartley (Cupid and Psyche). An amazing cast includesStanley Bahorek (Spelling Bee, Big River, February House), Sarah Corey (Illyria, Caroline, or Change) Malcolm Gets (The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, Amour, The Apple Tree), Edward Hibbert (Frasier, Curtains, Drowsy Chaperone) Kirsten Scott (Follies, Hairspray), A.J. Shivley (La Cage aux Folles) and Sally Wilfert (Assassins, Make Me A Song, See Rock City).

The evening will be directed by Annette Jolles, music directed by David Loud, and features Paul Staroba on piano.

Leaving Home brings together three short musicals, each of which explores the lives of young women as they emerge from the relative innocence of childhood into the darker, more intriguing world of being an adult. The plays take familiar folk tales or myths as their starting point - each one updated and transported to present-day New York City and environs.

Home after Dark, based on the myth of Persephone and Demeter and set in the suburbs of New Jersey, concerns a teen-aged girl with an overly possessive mother who makes a date over the internet with an older man.

Love and Real Estate, a hilariously dark take on "The Three Little Pigs," follows the adventures of three sisters who come to Manhattan, buy apartments, and meet the same mysteriously charming - and potentially dangerous - young man.

Pamela, the final play in the trilogy, is based on Hamlet - but set in Darien, Connecticut - where a young woman who has come back to her childhood home to attend her father's second wedding is visited by the ghost of her recently departed mother, who claims she was murdered by the father's new wife.

Tickets, $30 ($25 for Symphony Space members and Seniors; $20 for Students), are available by phone at (212) 864-5400; online at www.symphonyspace.org (just type "new voices" into the search engine); or at the box office.
