La MaMa Suspends All Performances Through Nov 4
In light of power outages as a result of Hurricane Sandy, La MaMa has announced that it will suspend performances at its 3 theatres through Sunday, November 4. Cancelled are performances of UNDESIRABLE ELEMENTS FESTIVAL at Ellen Stewart (66 E. 4 St.) along with 2 FROM THE SEA at First Floor Theatre and HOWL! BENEFIT and Saturday's COFFEEHOUSE CHRONICLE Trav. S.D. and Tim Cusack at The Club, 74A E. 4 St. in Manhattan, the Brad Greenwood / eat the wolf exhibit La Galleria, 6 E. 1st St.
"La MaMa will come back as soon as possible, and we are praying for all those who are suffering in the aftermath of the storm," said Mia Yoo, artistic director.
One of the world's leading experimental theatres, La MaMa celebrates its 51st season this season. The theater hopes to resume performances on Thursday, November 8 in the First Floor Theatre with PORT OUT/STARBOARD HOME performed by foolsFury.

International Artists introduced to America by La MaMa include Tadeusz Kantor, Andrei Serban, Kazuo Ohno and, more recently, the acclaimed Belarus Free Theatre. La MaMa has been honored with more than 30 OBIE Awards, dozens of Drama Desk and Bessie Awards, and, in 2006, Ellen Stewart was recognized with a special TONY Award for "Excellence in the Theatre."
