Kal Mansoor Brings A BRIEF HISTORY OF COLONIZATION to NYC Fringe

The New York International Fringe Festival is pleased to present A Brief History of Colonization from October 12 to 28, 2018 for five performances. Written, produced and performed by Kal Mansoor, and directed by Rick Allen Wilson, A Brief History of Colonization sees a culturally- conflicted British-Indian comedian attempt to make a Hollywood movie about India's colonial past, forcing him to revisit his own and discover the beauty and richness of his heritage, despite what he has been led to believe about it. A Brief History of Colonization will be performed at FringeNYC Hub (685 Washington Street) in New York's West Village. General admission tickets are $22, and senior tickets are $16. Mansoor, a British-Indian actor, writer and producer, has worked extensively in television and theatre in London, Paris, Los Angeles and New York. After growing frustrated with the lack of non-stereotypical roles being offered to him, Mansoor wrote, produced and starred in this one-man comedy show, A Brief History of Colonization.

By telling this story, Mansoor wants to deliver the core message that "media is the mirror in which we see ourselves reflected back, but unfortunately it doesn't always reflect well. Identity is something we all struggle with and colonization has played a huge part in shaping that struggle."

This "intelligent, lively, and deftly humorous one-man show" (Jed Ryan, Lavendar After Dark Media) made its world premiere at Dixon Place in January 2018. Before getting programmed into FringeNYC 2018, A Brief History of Colonization received its second installment at the Emerging Artists Theatre.
