Jonathan Whitton Brings BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL to Don't Tell Mama

By:

Jonathan Whitton (Bistro & MAC Award Winner, HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH) continues his critically lauded concert residency with guitarist AaRon Jones at Don't Tell Mama. BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL will play once a month through 2013 with initial dates scheduled for Friday, May 3 & June 7 @ 7:30PM and Monday, July 8 & August 5 @ 7:30PM. Tickets are $10 plus a two-drink minimum.

Celebrated for headlining both the Highline Ballroom & BB King Blues Club as Hedwig in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, Jonathan Whitton follows up his award-winning 2007 NYC solo-concert debut in collaboration with indie-musician/guitarist AaRon Jones. Times Square Chronicle recently proclaimed Whitton, "a 21st Century troubadour." BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL is billed as a "monthly evolving freak folk alt-cabaret" drawing on song selections from his critically acclaimed, sold-out 2012 concert series, THE FREE RESIDENCY, plus new material which will change monthly throughout the residency.

Whitton has been seen recently in NYC productions of EVEN FOR ONE NIGHT (Dixon Place), RAZIA'S SHADOW (Joe's Pub), THE DISNEY DIARIES (dir. Michele Pawk, Laurie Beechman), SEPARATE: BATTLE SONGS OF YOUTH (Ars Nova), & THE YELLOW WOOD (dir. Brian Yorkey, New World Stages). Regionally, he has starred in productions of THE LAST FIVE YEARS, HEDWIG, CABARET, & SANTALAND DIARIES. He has also been seen onstage at such NYC venues as Joe's Pub, 54 Below, Ars Nova, Highline Ballroom, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, and Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall.

Musical selections for BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL include songs from an eclectic group of contemporary musicians: Kate Bush, Michael Callen, Amy Correia, Kate McGarrigle, Patty Griffin, Sufjan Stevens, John Vanderslice, & Rufus Wainwright, amongst others.

NYU Musical Theatre Writing Program Graduate AaRon Jones serves as Music Director.

Backstage Magazine proclaims, "Whitton exudes talent and taste," and Cabaret Scenes heralds, "Whitton is built to last. He'll be around for the long run: performing, growing, daring."

Whitton's Debut Album, Jonathan Whitton: LIVE AT THE Laurie Beechman, is available on iTunes.

BLACK SHEEP CARNIVAL runs Friday, May 3 & June 7 and Monday, July 8 & August 5. All Performances begin at 7:30PM. Future dates through December 2013 to be announced. Don't Tell Mama is located at 343 W. 46th St. (btw 8th & 9th Avenues). There is a $10 cover. All performances have a 2-Drink Minimum. Cash only.
