Horse Trade Theater Presents SOMETHING SOMETHING ÜBER ALLES (DAS JACKPOT) at UNDER St. Marks, Now thru 10/5

By:

Horse Trade Theater Group will present Assurbanipal Babilla's play SOMETHING SOMETHING ÜBER ALLES (DAS JACKPOT) directed by David Cote (Otherland; The Scarlet Ibis) and performed by Robert Honeywell (Every Play Ever Written; The Lathe of Heaven), today, September 19-October 5 at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A).

A man who bears an uncanny resemblance to Adolf Hitler finds himself idolized by an orgiastic, underground, Führer-worshipping cult. In a monologue that's alternately hilarious and terrifying, we glimpse the true nature of worship, authority and humanity's tragic urge to obey. His heartbroken friend, our narrator, leads us down a twisted path to uncover the mystery of what really happened. Written by and originally performed by Assurbanipal Babilla, this tour-de-force monologue features a cast of grotesque characters, passages of intense lyrical power and bawdy comedy. Downtown stage veteran Robert Honeywell performs this 90-minute thrill ride that goes straight to the dark heart of religion and politics.

The play originally premiered at the Emerging Collector in March 1998. David Cote directed Assurbanipal Babilla. It ran for three months. The same year, it took part in the New York International Fringe Festival at the Kraine Theater. Something Something was then invited for an extended run at The Red Room and the Kraine, January-February 1999. Something Something was one of Horse Trade Theater Group's first main stage productions, and we are very proud to bring it back to kick off our 15th season.

The production will play at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A) September 19-October 5, Thursday through Saturday at 8pm. Tickets ($25; $20 students & seniors) are available by calling Smarttix at 212-868-4444 or online at www.horsetrade.info.
