On October 12 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation will sponsor a free event, "An Evening of Theater for the New City's History," narrated by Crystal Field and featuring special guests, at TNC, 155 First Ave. (at E. 10th Street).
Co-founder and Artistic Director Crystal Field will present the history of TNC with a lecture, slideshow and short film. She will explain the adventures, troubles and love that go along with TNC and why artists consider TNC their artistic home. Hon. Robert Tierney, former Chair of the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, will be a featured guest speaker. There will be a special performance by award-winning Broadway actress, storyteller an activist Vinie Burrows. There will be a slide show of pictures, a very short documentary film and a Q&A. Light refreshments will be served. From its early West Village days in the 1970s to present day in the East Village, Theater for the New City (TNC) has been an important award-winning performing arts venue on the downtown scene. Productions there have won 43 Village Voice Obie Awards and the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.salsa4.salsalabs.com/o/51405/p/salsa/event/common/public/?event_KEY=4295.
