The Working Theatre will be presenting a staged reading of Bugs of the Pigs in the Lions, by Kia Corthron.  The event will take place on April 19 at 7PM and will feature direction by Kent Gash. The reading will feature Tala Ashe, Caroline Clay, Ramsey Faragallah, Arthur French, Marc Damon Johnson and Johnny Ramey.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by visiting www.smarttix.com.

Bugs o the Pigs in the Lions is about Mum, a librarian, who proudly provides her community with uncensored knowledge while her father Harmon, a former Black Panther, meticulously protects the privacy of his past. But in the wake of the Patriot Act, federal agents use library records to uncover information that begins to collapse Mum's world. While watching The Situation unfold, she struggles to balance the disadvantages of censorship with the advantages of privacy-and she must confront her own family's struggle for justice, free speech, and liberty.

Kia is a multi award winning playwright whose plays have been Commissioned, developed and produced at New York's Public Theater, Atlantic Theater Company, Manhattan Theater Club, Playwrights' Horizons and many others.

The Working Theater believes this transformative experience should not be a privilege or a luxury, but a staple. Toward that goal, the Working Theater offers low ticket prices and tell stories that reflect a diverse population of the working majority, that acknowledge their complexity and oft-denied power in an increasingly complex world, which will unite us in our common humanity.
