Flea Theater Closes LA BOHEME (SPOKEN), 3/10-3/13

The Flea Theater presents Jeremy Bloom's production of LA BOHEME (SPOKEN), based on La bohème by Giacomo Puccini, adapted by Brian Rady, conceived and directed by Jeremy Bloom. LA BOHEME (SPOKEN) will play a 1-week limited engagement at The Flea Theater (41 White Street, New York, NY 10013). Performances begin Wednesday, March 10th through Saturday, March 13th.

LA BOHEME (SPOKEN) is a lyrical dialogue loyally adapted from Puccini's original libretto to his iconic opera La Bohème. The result is a larger-than-life play, about young artists, mostly broke, hyper, and always on the brink of inspiration and death. The musical roots (repetitions and rhyme) and the awkwardness of translation enable a language that is poetically charged.

The production features Laila Alj, Amanda Bloom, Lauren Blumenfeld, Veracity Butcher, Holly Chou, Tommy Crawford, Katherine Folk-Sullivan, Christopher Hejl, Vella Lovell, Nick Maccarone, Joyce Miller, Scott Morse, Sade Namei, Heidi Neidermeyer, Dominic Spillane, Stephen Stout, Ari Venturi, Ben Webber and Claire Wilmoth.

Julie Griffith is the producer. Dan Gallagher is the lighting designer and Kara Kaufman is the production stage manager.

LA BOHEME (SPOKEN) plays the following 5 performances: Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m.,  Thursday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 12 at 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 pm. The production has a running time of 70 minutes.

JEREMY BLOOM (Creator, Director) Directing and assisting credits include Metropolitan Opera, The Flea, NY Fringe, NYU Grad, Walkerspace, The Tank, The Access Gallery, Midtown Festival (award winner), and Planet Connections (award winner). Jeremy is a resident artist with the cell and Evenstar Films. Original works include Leaves of Grass, Peter~Wendy and The Wendy Complex. Currently in development, Walt and Emily: Between the Rooms.

BRIAN RADY (Poet, Writer) is a poet and playwright, and has authored and directed several lyrical multimedia plays including Anchor Women, Joan Mitchell Says I Love You, The Memory Furies, and The Harbormaster. He currently assists the curatorial team at The Kitchen Center for Art and Performance in Chelsea.

Giacomo Puccini (Composer) (22 December 1858 - 29 November 1924) was an Italian composer whose operas, including La bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot, are among the most frequently performed in the standard repertoire. Some of his arias, such as "O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi, "Che gelida manina" from La bohème, and "Nessun dorma" from Turandot, have become part of popular culture.

The Flea Theater, under Artistic Director Jim Simpson and Producing Director Carol Ostrow, is one of New York's leading off-off-Broadway companies. Winner of a Special Drama Desk Award for outstanding achievement, Obie Awards and an Otto for political theater, The Flea has presented nearly 100 plays and numerous dance and live music performances since its inception in 1996.
