EBE Ensemble to present Shakespeare in the Pagoda 2011

By:

EBE Ensemble (Eric Alba, Artistic Director) will be producing its second annual free, outdoor summer program at Prospect Park's 1887 Music Pagoda, performing Much Ado About Nothing directed by Charley Layton. The production will be site-specific and will feature active, contemporary interpretations using Shakespeare's classic text, cut to only 90 minutes in length.

This season, Much Ado About Nothing takes you to New Orleans, celebrating the city's raucous, festive style and telling this classic tale of summer romance with soul and pizzazz. The production will feature a jazz quintet playing both original music and classic standards.

Performances begin June 17th at 3pm and continue to play at that same time on June 18, 19th, 25th and 26th. For complete schedule information and details, visit www.ebeensemble.org.

The cast includes ensemble members Eric Alba as Dogberry and Elizabeth Spano as Hero, as well as guest artists Emilio Aquino, Darcy Cadman, Michael Cirelli, Fernando Contreras, Alex Gould, Matthew Hanson, Jenna Krasowski, Whit Leyenberger, Dan Mulkerin, John Prescod, Shannon Pritchard, Joseph Reese, and Adrienne Rose White.

The shows feature costume design by Katja Andreiev, props design by Lauren Genutis, original music by Charley Layton, fight choreography by Turner Smith, and musicians Marek Sapieyevski (banjo), Charley Layton (clarinet), Griffin Sherbert (drums), Sarah Segal-Lazar (trombone/vocals), Peter Honan (Trumpet), and Fernando Contreras (vocals).

EBE Ensemble is dedicated to developing and presenting new and unique works of theatre. They believe that making theater accessible enhances a community and that, through an ensemble-based approach, they can better present quality theatre that strives for an emotional truth. They believe that a positive and energetic work environment is paramount in developing interesting and entertaining works of art. Now finishing their fifth season, EBE Ensemble has produced more than 25 new plays and adaptations, has created the NYIT Award-winning one-act festival, Elephants on Parade, and engaged the community through annual productions of classic works at no cost in Prospect Park with their Shakespeare in the Pagoda series.
