DON CRISTOBAL Enters Final Weekend; Closes March 3
For centuries, the puppet Don Cristóbal - the Spanish version of Punch - has charmed audiences with his drunken, lusty billy-club wielding antics. But does he secretly struggle with his role as the Billy-Club Man and long for love and escape? Through experimental puppetry, clowning and live music, Don Cristóbal, Billy-Club Man explores the violent appetites of Cristóbal's on-stage persona and follows him off-stage to reveal his poetic possibilities. Inspired by two comedic and surreal puppet plays by Federico García Lorca, the piece features shadow, hand, and large figurative puppetry by Erin Orr and evocative original music by Rima Fand.
Target Margin Theater: THE ( * ) INN
March 7-30 | $20 until March 1; $25 thereafter
The shtetl turns uncanny in Peretz Hirschbein's classic of Yiddish life. You might be expecting The Farm life, the chicken-plucking, and the arranged marriage, but not the S&M lust and the body-snatching wedding guests.
NARCISSISTER: ORGAN PLAYER
March 15-23 | $15
She's a doll, a puppet, a bodybuilder. Narcissister's newest production is a large-scale performance that stretches the limits of spectatorship. Organ Player lures us into a body that threatens to eject its contents.
DECENTER: AN EXHIBITION ON THE CENTENARY OF THE 1913 ARMORY SHOW
Through April 7
DECENTER features 27 contemporary artists who explore the changes in perception precipitated by our digital age and who closely parallel the Cubist vernacular of fragmentation, nonlinearity, simultaneity, and decenteredness. Digital works can be viewed at www.decenterarmory.com.
