Craig Lucas Adaptation of MISS JULIE Begins Tonight at Matthew Corozine Studio

A young woman seeks personal independence without understanding what that truly entails in August Strindberg timeless drama Miss Julie. Adapted by Craig Lucas and based on a literal translation from Anders Cato, Miss Julie will be performed at The Matthew Corozine Studio Theatre, located at 357 West 36 Street, Suite 202.

Performances run from tonight, September 16, through October 1 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 5pm. All tickets are $18.00 and can be purchased at missjuliemcs.eventbrite.com or by calling 212-904-1102 from 10am-5pm, Monday through Thursday.

Miss Julie, a woman of privilege in 1888 Sweden, has long desired to escape the social restrictions placed on her, preferring instead the company of "common people". Yet while actively seeking the freedom she believes only the lower classes can have, she lacks the courage to ever have more than a passionate dalliance there. One hot midsummer night, she strikes up a conversation with her father's valet - a man whose aspirations include climbing the very pedestal Miss Julie seeks to leave forever. As the hours tick by, each begins to wonder if the other holds the key to what they've always longed for.

Directed by Gabby Aris, the cast features Kalynn Dodge*, Jamaal R. Clifton and Kimberly Michelle Thomas*. The creative team includes David Gottfried, who will be performing live music for the show; Costa Giannakopoulos (Set Design), Ricky DeRossa (Lighting), and Matthew Corozine (Artistic Consultant). The production is an Actors' Equity-Approved Showcase.

Gabby Aris is making her directorial debut with Miss Julie. She has been the in-house producer for The Matthew Corozine Studio for the past two years. Past productions include Green Whales, Collected Stories, the world premiere of Showmance and Cock, the latter in which she also starred. She has been a student of The Matthew Corozine Studio since 2006 and is a graduate of The Celia Helena Theater School in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

2016 marks The Matthew Corozine Studio's 16th year of training actors in the heart of the theatre district in NYC.
