Columbia Stages to Present THE PHYSICISTS, 1/22-25

Columbia Stages will present THE PHYSICISTS, an MFA Directing thesis production, written by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, directed by Sina Heiss. THE PHYSICISTS will open at The Connelly and run from January 22-25, 2014.

In the well-funded Swiss asylum of Les Cerisiers, nurses have recently been meeting violent deaths. The assailants are two lunatics who call themselves Newton and Einstein and their fellow inmate, physicist Johann Möbius, knows more than he is willing to share.

Written in the early 1960s at the height of the Cold War, The Physicists, a satiric comedy, offers a sly and unnervingly relevant take on the misuse of power and knowledge.

Sina Heiss (Director) and Mia Lujun Shen (Creative Producing) will bring this Swiss play on stage with a multi-cultural team including: Ashley Minihan (Dramaturgy) Lia Bonfilio (Choreography), Manuel Mitterhuber(Sound Design), Evelien Stichelmeyer (Scenic Design) Brooke Cohen (Costume Design), Daisy Long (Lighting Design), Paul Lieber (Video Design), Regina Mallinger (Vocal Arrangement), Jenny Ainsworth (Stage Management) Kate Dial & Alayna Graziani (Assistant Stage Management).

Lia Bonfilio, Ben Compton, Dianne Diep, Matthew Dunivan, Tim Elliott, Chris Holland, Cameron Jefts, Miranda Kahn, Toby Knops, BrIan Keith MacDonald*, Jon L. Peacock, Alexander Reed, Aubrey Lace Taylor, Vanessa Winkle.

Sina Heiss is an Austrian director and performer. Her work is characterized by a strong conceptual, multidisciplinary approach. It explores the threshold between life and the stage and celebrates the art of simply being, everyday beauty and serendipity. The Physicists is produced by Stormproof Production, which she co-founded with Mia Lujun Shen.
