Chelsea Studios Hosts Reading of THE SECRET LIVES OF COATS, 2/28

Chelsea Studios presents a reading of THE SECRET LIVES OF COATS, A COATCHECK MUSICAL, by Stephanie Fleischmann, with music by Christina Campanella, directed by Hayley Finn, Monday, February 28, 2011 at 6 pm at Chelsea Studios, 151 West 26th Street, 5th floor, Studio 507.

Stephanie Fleischmann and Christina Campanella, the team behind the critically acclaimed multimedia music-theater work Red Fly/Blue Bottle, have joined forces to create this quirky jewelbox of a musical, directed by Hayley Finn, about 3 coatcheck girls in cahoots who while away a long night in their booths, confiding in each other their hopes and dreams. A vaudevillian romp through the coat closets of the service industry, Secret Lives is a riff on class and identity, on silver spoons and starlets in the making, on photographic memory and foundlings and the holes in the pockets of our coats. Like the play's intrepid coatcheck girls, we are all stuck in our own "coatcheck closets": How do we dream ourselves outside the box? This coatcheck musical harnesses the power of the imagination to effect change.
