For the first time ever, the Brooklyn College Theater Department will present an original play penned by a graduate of the College's M.F.A. Playwriting program. Happily Ever, by Amina Henry '14 M.F.A., will run from May 2-6 at the New Workshop Theater in the Brooklyn College Center for the Performing Arts.

Inspired by William Shakespeare and John Fletcher's Two Noble Kinsmen, the play explores love, desire, and the hope of romance. Director Benjamin Kamine, a Manhattan-based designer and stage director, is currently a Brooklyn College guest artist. Kamine works with the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, whose Guest Artist Initiative facilitates and funds the hiring of professional directors by universities and colleges across the country.

Henry's most recent production is An American Family Takes a Lover (Theater for the New City). Her work has been staged by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Brick, and the Hive Theater, among others. In 2013, she was the finalist for the Leah Ryan Fund for Emerging Women Writers Playwriting Prize for her play Bully.

The M.F.A. Playwriting program, part of the Brooklyn College Department of English, is headed by Distinguished Professor Mac Wellman, a three-time Obie winner. The graduate program was created more than 30 years ago by Jack Gelber, one of America's most important experimental writers, and has produced several playwrights who have earned numerous distinctions. They includeAnnie Baker '09, who recently received the Pulitzer Prize in Drama, Young Jean Lee '06, as well as Tina Satter '08 andKelly Copper '10-both Obie winners.
