Baruch PAC Presents A BLUE SKY LIKE NO OTHER, Opens 9/7

As the world commemorates the tenth year anniversary of 9/11, Baruch Performing Arts Center announces the world premiere of the theatrical production "A Blue Sky Like No Other", one man's personal first-hand experience of the events that took place at the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001, opening on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 7pm, followed by a reception for the audience, running through Sunday, September 25, 2011 at 3pm & 7pm. "A Blue Sky Like No Other" serves as a tribute to the members of the New York City Fire Department who sacrificed their lives to save the lives of others on that tragic day. With real-life slide and video projections and original music, utility consultant and average every day citizen Steve Fetter tells the tale of what happened that day from his eye-witness perspective in a remarkable and captivating manner that also touches upon how his life ultimately changed. The intimate one-man show will last 80 minutes in length without an intermission, and will feature music by singer-songwriter Laura Warshauer, the first recipient of the Buddy Holly Singer/Songwriter Award.

Steve Fetter makes his NYC off-broadway acting and writing debut in this production. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of both Centrum, Washington State's Home for Creative Arts and Education, and the Key City Public Theater. Frank Beaver, former Chairman of the University of Michigan Department of Communications, credits Fetter's research as the impetus behind the creation of the U of M's undergraduate film and video program. After serving as Chairman of the Michigan Public Service Commission, Fetter worked on Wall Street from 1993 to 2002. In February 2002, Fetter was appointed to the CH Energy Group Board of Directors, and soon thereafter, started Regulation UnFettered, an energy advisory firm. Earlier, Fetter served as Acting Associate Deputy Under Secretary at the U.S. Department of Labor, Majority General Counsel to the Michigan Senate, Assistant Legal Counsel to Governor William Milliken of Michigan, and as an appellate litigation attorney at the National Labor Relations Board. Fetter holds both undergraduate (Communications) and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan. Prior to attending law school, Steve was a horse-race announcer at the The Meadows near Pittsburgh, PA. Fetter will contribute his profits from these performances to charities assisting families of firefighters who died from the 9/11 attack.

Director Abigail Zealey Bess has worked extensively in New York's film and theatre community as a director, independent filmmaker, producer and writer.

She has been directing theatre, specializing in new work since she arrived on these shores and established Weird Sisters,www.weirdsistersfilms.com, as a theatrical entity in 1997. She continues to head the company developing theatrical ventures and feature film projects that promote not only women writers with prolific voices but also highlight the human condition with particular reference to the female plight.

Under the auspices of her company she directed and produced the award-winning film Play Ball! which screened at festivals in the USA and all over the world.

As a long-standing member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre based in New York, one of the leading developmental theatres of new work in the USA, she has directed and produced numerous new works and plays at EST and NY theatres including The Foundry Theatre, Ohio Theatre, Soho Repertory Theatre, Abingdon Theatre, Cherry Lane Theatre, Playwrights Horizons, Here and internationally at the Edinburgh Festival, the Young Vic, the Strand Theatre, London.
Current Projects include an ongoing webisode series, entitled This is what I like, and now I'll tell you why and she is developing a live animation feature length script, 7 Variations on the Same Lover with Crystal Skillman

Baruch Performing Arts Center (BPAC) was launched in the fall of 2003 as part of the Weissman School of Arts & Sciences at Baruch College. BPAC's mission is to integrate performing arts into the lives of Baruch students through programming and allied activities that support and enrich the college's educational curriculum; and to serve as a major performing arts center for the New York City major metropolitan area. Currently under the management and direction of John Malatesta, BPAC has presented a vast array of music (classical, chamber, baroque, jazz, world, contemporary), theater (modern, classic), modern dance, film screenings, onstage dialogues and special events through series such as the Silberman Chamber Music Series, the Milt Hinton Jazz Series, 55 Underground Contemporary Concert Series, the BPAC Theater Series, the Great Works Reading Series, the Weissman Talks Onstage Dialogue Series and a special residency with the Alexander String Quartet. Two plays have moved to Broadway from BPAC, including "Irena's Vow" starring Tovah Feldshuh, and a workshop production of "Spring Awakening" by the Atlantic Theater Company.
