92YTribeca Hosts Behind the Music-al at 92YTribeca 3/21

By:

Behind the Music-al is an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the next generation of musical theater composers. For "Unfinished Business," emerging songwriters Adam Gwon, Randy Redd and Ewalt & Walker discuss the songs that wound up on the cutting room floor, or are still being developed for new projects. How do you take a song that never quite made it to completion and turn it into something new? How do you finish your unfinished business?

Bios

Adam Gwon is a composer/lyricist whose musicals include Ordinary Days (Roundabout Theatre Company, London's Trafalgar Studios) and the upcoming The Boy Detective Fails (with Joe Meno), Cloudlands (with Octavio Solis) and Bernice Bobs Her Hair (with Julia Jordan). His honors include the Fred Ebb Award, the ASCAP Harold Adamson Award, the MAC John Wallowitch Award, and a MAC Award nomination for best song, as well as commissions from Signature Theatre (Arlington, VA), South Coast Repertory, Broadway Across America, and the EST/Sloan Project.

Randy Redd is a professor of musical theater at CAP 21 and NYU's Tisch School of The Arts. Along with David Pittu, he wrote What's That Smell: The Music of Jacob Stirling produced by the Atlantic Theater Company. He also helps run the "After the Storm" foundation, which helps bring music and theater to communities in New Orleans affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Kyle Ewalt and Michael I. Walker are co-creators of Behind the Musical with 92YTribeca. Most recently, their show Separate: Battle Songs of Youth was seen at Ars Nova and their latest musical, Bromance: the Dudesical, was at Caroline's on Broadway. Together, they have completed four musicals, and their music has been seen around NYC and the country. Bromance will next be seen in February as part of Ground UP Productions New Works Festival. Michael's play, Letter From Algeria, just completed an Off-Broadway run at the Abgindon Theater.
