The puritanical killjoy of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night finally has his say in I, Malvolio, a one-man deconstruction of one of classic literature's most misunderstood characters. By British scribe Tim Crouch, I, Malvolio, presented by The New Victory Theater, is a hilarious, charged and often unsettling rant from a complex man full of pride, passion, rage and humiliation. I, Malvolio will run at The Duke on 42nd Street, 229 West 42nd Street, from January 11 through January 20, 2013.

I, Malvolio is part of a series of solo Shakespeare pieces written and performed by Crouch commissioned by the Brighton Festival. Each work in the series centralizes and explores the world from the point of view of a minor character in a famous Shakespeare play. A story of lost dignity, prudery, practical jokes and bullying, I, Malvolio delves deep into the madness of Shakespeare's classic comedy Twelfth Night. When the show premiered at the Brighton Festival in 2010, Crouch received the award for Best Male Performer. I, Malvolio has since toured extensively in the United Kingdom and around the world, including performances in Florence, Singapore and at the Stanislavsky Festival in Moscow.

In addition to I, Malvolio, the critically lauded series includes I, Caliban (inspired by The Tempest); I, Peaseblossom (inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream); and I, Banquo (inspired by Macbeth). His most recent addition to the series, I, Cinna (the poet), inspired by Julius Caesar, was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Also for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Tim directed The Taming of the Shrew in 2011 and King Lear in 2012 for RSC's Young People's Shakespeare series. King Lear was additionally presented at the Park Avenue Armory in New York this past October.

I, Malvolio is written and performed by Tim Crouch. Direction is by Karl James and Andy Smith. Design is by Graeme Gilmour (Olivier Award nominee for Shockheaded Peter). Following its run at The New Victory Theater, I, Malvolio will continue its U.S. tour to Columbus, OH (The Wexner Center for the Arts, Feb. 14 – 17).

I, Malvolio is recommended for everyone 11 and older.
