The Flea Announces Fall 2013 Season: New Works Featuring the Olsen Twins, Salem Witches & More

The Flea Theater kicks off its Fall 2013 Season with the New York Premiere of Jonathan Caren's THE RECOMMENDATION - a play about class, race, power and what happens to a friendship when the tables get turned. The 2012 production at The Old Globe in San Diego won the Craig Noel Outstanding New Play Award. Helmed by Flea Resident Director Kel Haney and featuring The Bats, the resident Acting Company at The Flea, this production plays August 23 - September 22, Wednesday - Sunday at 7pm with press opening on September 6. Tickets are $15 - $35.

Next up, The Riot Group's Adriano Shaplin joins The Bats in a radical re-telling of the events leading up to the Salem Witch Trials, SARAH FLOOD IN SALEM MASS. Blood feuds, black magic, and the birth of capitalism merge in this dizzying portrait of a village on the brink. Directed by Applied Mechanics' Rebecca Wright, it runs September 24 - October 27, Tuesday - Saturday at 7pm, Sunday at 3pm with press opening October 6. Tickets $15 - $50. Pay What You Can every Tuesday at the door.

The Flea season continues with Mary-Kate Olsen IS IN LOVE by Mallery Avidon - a satire about love and growing-up and "being real" - will be directed by Flea Resident Director Kristen Seemel and features The Bats. This production plays November 1 - December 8, Wednesday - Sunday at 7pm. Tickets are $15 - $35.

And finally, The Flea presents the World Premiere of a quintessential A.R. Gurney drama, FAMILY FURNITURE. Directed by Thomas Kail (Tony-Nominee for In the Heights), this heartbreaking coming-of-age story plays November 12 - December 22. Tuesday - Saturday at 7pm, Saturday - Sunday at 3pm. Press opening November 24. Tickets are $15 - $70. Pay What You Can every Tuesday at the door.

Low Priced Tickets for Every Production at The Flea

The Flea Theater has increased its commitment to creating theater that is accessible to all. Every production at The Flea will have a limited number of $15 tickets available on a first-come-first-served basis. They also will be continuing their Pay What You Can performances on Tuesday nights Upstairs at The Flea. Pay What You Can tickets are available one hour prior to performance.

The Flea Theater, under Artistic Director Jim Simpson and Producing Director Carol Ostrow, is one of New York's leading off-off-Broadway companies. Recent successes include Drama Desk nominated She Kills Monsters,These Seven Sicknesses and Restoration Comedy.
