The Evening Crane theatre is putting up a production of Lord Byron's The Transformed Deformed at Theatre 80 St Marks premiering on the 31st of October at 9.30 pm.
In the play, the hunchback Arnold becomes the great Greek warrior Achilles (Miah Kane) after a Faustian encounter with The Devil (Hannah Hasseløy). However, the hunchback-turned-hero soon finds himself at the head of an assault against Rome. Throughout the play the Spirit of Rome appears, fiercely reminding everyone how the fight to protect Rome is vital to the preservation of the city's essence. Presented with the challenge of taking on such a complex character imbued with history and symbolism, Isra Elsalihie chose to explore the passion, sorrow, isolation, and helplessness the Spirit of Rome faces, making the character equal parts relatable and intriguing.
The cast is:
Cellini - Carlo Cruz
Philibert - Matthew Domenico
The Spirit of Rome - Isra Elsalihie
Bertha / Olimpia - Katie Gehrmann
Arnold the Hunchback - William Greenage
Achilles - Miah Kane
Constable Bourbon - Larson Miller
The Stranger - Crystal Williamson & Hannah Hasseloey
Directed by Michael Seebold
