TARA'S CROSSING to Have Benefit Reading at Houses on the Moon Theater Company

As part of its 25th Anniversary Season, Houses on the Moon Theater Company will present a special one-night-only benefit reading of TARA'S CROSSING, written by company co-founder Jeffrey Solomon and directed by Irvin Mason Jr., on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 6:00 PM at The Center.

Groundbreaking when it premiered in 2004, TARA'S CROSSING tells the remarkable odyssey of Tara, a transgender woman seeking asylum in the United States after fleeing persecution in Guyana. Upon arriving in America in search of safety and freedom, she finds herself detained within the U.S. immigration system, forced to navigate a complex and often dehumanizing process while holding onto hope, identity, and the possibility of a new life.

A powerful and deeply human story of resilience, courage, and survival, TARA'S CROSSING remains as urgent today as when it was first written. The play has been presented and studied nationwide and has served as a training tool at law schools across the country, helping future attorneys better understand the experiences of asylum seekers and the realities of the immigration system.

The reading will feature an acclaimed cast including Annelise Cepero (West Side Story, Holiday Harmony), Ian Eaton (“Oz,” “Law & Order”), Luke Forbes (The Hunting Party, Harlem), Lucille Lortel and Chita Rivera Award winner Amara Granderson, Princess Grace Award recipient Samora la Perdida, and Katie Sexton (The Play That Goes Wrong, The Luckiest Girl Alive).

Following the performance, audiences are invited to remain for a reception and a special post-show conversation exploring the themes of the play and its continued relevance in today's social and political landscape.
