Photo Flash: The Amoralists' THE GYRE Opens at Walkerspace

The Amoralists present The Gyre, a two play repertory exploring man's vicious cycles, featuring the World Premiere of Derek Ahonen's The Qualification of Douglas Evans, directed by James Kautz, and the World Premiere of Mark Roberts' Enter at Forest Lawn, directed by Jay Stull.

Shows run from June 26 - August 9, 2014 in a limited 7-week engagement at Walkerspace, located at 46 Walker Street between Broadway and Church Street in New York City. The Qualification of Douglas Evans begins previews June 26 for a July 15 opening and runs through August 9. Enter at Forest Lawn begins previews June 27 for a July 14 opening and runs through August 9.

Performances are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 8pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. The schedule varies - for exact days and times go to http://www.TheAmoralists.com.

A surrealistic exploration of the pleasures and pains of addiction, The Qualification of Douglas Evans recounts the life of playwright Douglas Evans and his pursuit of acceptance in a warped world of women, family and art. From his trials as a wide-eyed teenager to his descent into the ills of artistic success, this is a coming-of-age tale of rock bottoms, bright skies and the will to rise above one's inner animal.

The cast for The Qualification of Douglas Evans includes Derek Ahonen, Penny Bittone, Mandy Nicole Moore, Agatha Nowicki, Samantha Strelitz, Kelley Swindall and Barbara Weetman.

The creative team includes David Harwell (Set Design), Brad Peterson (Lighting Design), Lux Haac (Costume Design), Phil Carluzzo (Sound Design), Stephanie Cox-Williams (Special Effects), Francine Volpe (Dramaturg) and Alfred Schatz (Assistant Director). The production team includes Lico Whitfield (Producer), Form Theatricals (General Management), Jeremy Pape (Production Manager) and Jane Davis (Stage Manager).

When America's favorite TV uncle heads into a downward spiral of drugs, prostitutes and criminal activity, how far will the show's megalomaniac producer go to cover up his star's debauchery, keeping the laughter coming and the money train on the tracks? Enter at Forest Lawn is a darkly comic peek inside the not-so-funny world of network television.

The cast for Enter at Forest Lawn includes David Lanson, Sarah Lemp, Matthew Pilieci, Mark Roberts and Anna Stromberg.

The creative team includes David Harwell (Set Design), Brad Peterson (Lighting Design), Lux Haac (Costume Design), Jeanne Travis (Sound Design), Stephanie Cox-Williams (Special Effects) and Vanessa Vache (Assistant Director). The Amoralists continue to garner critical acclaim in the theatrical world. The New York Times said, "The Amoralists cements its reputation as the most promising, crowd-pleasing ensemble to emerge downtown." "Nobody else weds old-fashioned realist structure to working-class-hero lunacy quite this way," enthused TimeOut NY. Paper Magazine exclaimed, "Like good punk rock, The Amoralists come on strong; they're hard, fast and loud." "One of these days The Amoralists are going to get arrested," warned Variety. The New York Times said, "Ahonen has a showman's sensibility. Even at their most over the top, his plays are notably earnest."

The Amoralists is a theatre company that produces work of no moral judgment. Dedicated to an honest expression of the American condition, their ensemble explores complex characters of moral ambiguity. Leaving no stone unturned, they plumb the depths of the social, political, spiritual and sexual characteristics of human nature. They were selected as a 2012 Person of the Year by NYTheatre.com.
