"Orchestrated mayhem and the excitement that ensues are the only predictable variables...Try as it may to maintain theatrical composure, [Avant-Grade-Arama) always ends up degenerating, or exploding, into an all-out party." - Flavorpill

AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA! hosted by performance artists Gina Vetro and David Ilku in the latest installment of PS122's longest-running series, this multi-disciplinary mini-festival features an exuberant and ecletic line-up of the wildest experimental performance shorts to be found in New York City, from theatre, dance, and new music, to multi-media and live art installation. AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA! (AGA!) will be a full-on art attack, an all-encompassing performance spectacular taking over the building and spilling into a DJ'd dance party nightly as part of the season opening festivities.

AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA! marks the launch of PS 122's 2009 Fall Season at their home at 150
First Avenue which includes upcoming performances by Cupola Bobber, Maria Hassabi, John Jahnke, Temporary Distortion, Morgan Thorson, Rabih Mroué, Marisa Olson, LeeSaar, Lisa D'Amour and Katie Pearl, Sybil Kempson and Mike Iveson, Jr. and many more. This AGA! presents a unique opportunity to celebrate past, present and future PS122 artists while continuing the longstanding tradition of this bi-annual event.

Both Friday and Saturday, AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA! will include two interactive performances: the very romantic Hawaii by Karen Therese, Lizzie Thomson, which is- literally - a tongue-in-cheek
homage to that time in love otherwise known as ‘the honeymoon period'; and the very poignant re:placement by Andrew Schneider. re:placement is a memory installation by Mr. Schneider, who is a featured video artist for The Wooster Group; earlier this year, his apartment builidng collapsed and he lost everything except the shirt on his back and the toothbrush in his hand, including substantial video footage.

He declined multiple offers to help replace his stuff and opted instead to ask people to donate memories by way of text, objects, video footage, links, etc. The online gallery is currently an ongoing event page via the Performance Space 122 Facebook group, where anyone can particpate and contribute to the installation. Mr. Schneider will transfer the online collection into a physical setting during the AGA! evenings. Meanwhile, couples of all ages are invited to participate in Hawaii by booking tickets in advance with code "Hawaii" - this will sign them up to be part of the performance that evening - instructions are top secret and will be revealed to the couples when they arrive that evening!

As always, both nights of AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA! will feature live music - this time, by the band GoonSquad the new musical act featuring Miss Guy - lead singer of Toilet Boys and Squeezebox DJ.

And each night will be capped off with refreshments and a raucous dance party led by DJ Scott Ewalt on Friday night and DJ Joro-Boro on Saturday, celebrating the kick off of the Fall 2009 season at PS122 like never before.

Friday, September 18th includes performances by Joey Arias, M. Lamar, Maria Hassabi, Carmelita
Tropicana and Maureen Angelos and Carol Lipnik and Spookarama.

Saturday, September 19th includes performances by Jackie Hoffmann, Beadz on Nude Illusion, enemyResearch, Adrienne Truscott and Reggie Watts. Plus a special sneak peek video "Obscenities" from L. Gabrielle Penabaz with Nicole Blackman. Curated by Salley May and the Avant-Garde-Arama! Committee

Please note that PS122's Fall Season in NYC will have gotten underway as of September 10th on Governors Island in association with the New Island Festival and the co-presentation of the New York premiere of Braakland by Compagnie Dakar / Lotte van der Berg.
