PANDIMIA: ACT OF GODS to be Presented at MITF's 2026 Return

As the Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) officially announces its historic return to the New York stage after a decade-long hiatus, festival producers have named the new drama "Pandimia: Act of Gods" a featured event of the 2026 season.

Written by Jason S. Abrams, this evocative exploration of isolation and human connection will headline the festival's residency at the American Theatre of Actors (ATA) this summer.

"Pandimia: Act of Gods" provides a serio-comic look into the colliding lives of four New Yorkers during the global standstill of the COVID-19 pandemic. The narrative follows two households pushed to their emotional limits: a straight couple struggling to parent a young child within the claustrophobic confines of a cramped apartment, and a pair of ex-boyfriends forced to navigate the precarious transition from former lovers to sequestered roommates. As the world outside remains silent, these characters are forced to confront their pasts, their futures, and the undeniable friction of shared survival. From the fictional trading of toilet paper on commodity exchanges, to the use of St. Bernards to serve food and drinks at Hamptons parties during the lockdown, to the belief that Kellogg's breakfast cereals are actually gay-themed, the play uses absurdism, caricaturization, satire and other comedic techniques to dramatize the surreal and crazy aspects of life during those trying times and, in doing so, to take "power" away from the pandemic.

"Jason S. Abrams has written a story that is both a time capsule and a universal study of how we relate to one another when all distractions are stripped away," said the MITF executive team. "Including Pandemia as a featured work in our comeback season aligns perfectly with the festival's mission of presenting high-stakes, socially relevant theatre that reflects the real New York experience."

Performances will run Wednesday July 15 at 8:15pm; Friday July 17 at 6:30pm; and Saturday July 18 at 5:30pm.
