MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE Returns Off-Broadway in April

By:

This April the compelling and controversial play, MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE, returns to New York City for the first time in nine years. The show will star Charlotte Hemmings as Rachel Corrie and will be directed by Jonathan Kane. This special limited run will take place at Culture Project's Lynn Redgrave Theater (45 Bleeker Street), running from April 2 through April 12. MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE is taken from the writings of Rachel Corrie and edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner. Tickets are $26.50 - $66.50 with premium seating priced at $81.50 and can be purchased by visiting cultureproject.org or calling Ovation Tix at 866-811-4111. MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE is presented by Sawtooth Productions.

On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a twenty-three-year-old American, was killed in Gaza as she was trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home. MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE is a one-woman play composed from Rachel's own journals, letters and emails - creating a portrait of a messy, articulate, Salvador Dali-loving chain smoker (with a passion for the music of Pat Benatar), who left her home and school in Olympia, Washington, to work as an activist in the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the three sold-out London runs since its Royal Court premiere, the piece has been surrounded by both controversy and impassioned proponents, and has raised an unprecedented call to support political work and the difficult discourse it creates.

On April 10, Rachel Corrie's birthday, there will be a benefit performance for the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice (rachelcorriefoundation.org). The show will be followed by a Q & A with the family of Rachel Corrie.

"I am so excited to bring this amazing story of a young woman that paid the ultimate price for literally standing up for what she believed in. This play seems even more timely now as the divides in our society continue to plague us," says Director Jonathan Kane

Creative team includes: Linda Hartinian (Set Design), Lucrecia Briceno (Lighting Design), Eamonn Farrel (Sound and Video Design), and Bill Raymond (Assistant Director).
